ECG screening in the Unites States: Are we there yet?

No controlled clinical trial has determined whether ECG screening saves lives. Nonetheless, this is happening at state, local, and grass roots levels in the United States (US). A Texas lawmaker recently introduced a bill requiring pre-participation sports screening —including an ECG—in high school students1. Similar bills have seeped into other state legislatures. Researchers, clinicians, lawmakers, patients, and advocacy groups have well-intentioned, thoughtful, and often emotional arguments on both sides of the ECG screening debate.
