Vascular Surgery in Ethiopia: Result of Twinning Partnership in Developing Vascular Care

In Sub-Saharan Africa, the field of vascular surgery is relatively new. Cardiovascular diseases and other noncommunicable diseases account for>70% of global mortality; moreover, 5 billion people have no access to basic and emergency surgical care. Since 2016, the Division of Vascular Surgery of the University of Wisconsin and Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital of Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia developed a partnership whereby a vascular surgery care and fellowship training program was initiated.
