Left ventricular outflow tract calcium and TAVR —The tip of the iceberg?

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has inexorably altered the way physicians are able to treat symptomatic severe aortic stenosis.1 Patients once deemed too high-risk for surgical valve replacement (SAVR) are now able to undergo a percutaneous procedure for aortic stenosis treatment. Through large-scale multi-center trials, TAVR has been shown to be safe across all risk profiles, including low risk, expanding TAVR as a viable option to SAVR.2,3 Refinements in pre-procedural planning, extensive experience in peri- and intra-procedural imaging, as well as continual valve design innovation have further improved clinical and procedural outcomes.
