Gastric Acid and Pepsin Work Together in Simulated Gastric Acid Inhalation Leading to Pulmonary Fibrosis in Rats.

CONCLUSIONS The study demonstrates that aspiration of gastric contents can cause pulmonary fibrosis, and mixed aspiration of pepsin and gastric fluid can accelerate this process.
