Robot-assisted partial nephrectomy with a standard laparoscopic ultrasound probe in treating endophytic renal tumor.

CONCLUSION: RPN with a standard laparoscopic ultrasound probe is safe, effective and feasible in treating endophytic renal tumor. Our original approach for separating renal mass can avoid some problems caused by the standard laparoscopic ultrasound probe. PMID: 31350090 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Bozzini G, Seveso M, Romero Otero J, Osmolorskij B, Garcia Cruz E, Margreiter M, Verze P, Besana U, Buizza C Abstract BACKGROUND: Frozen section analysis (FSA) is frequently performed during partial nephrectomy (PN). We investigate the utility of intraoperative FSA by evaluating its impact on final surgical margin (SM) status. METHODS: Between January 1995 and December 2005 we prospectively analysed a series of patients who were treated with open PN for Renal Cell Carcinoma. During PN each patient underwent a FSA on renal parenchyma distal margin . If FSA was positive for infiltration a deeper excision...

Conclusions: Preoperative AAPR might be an independent prognostic factor in patients with non-metastatic RCC. The ratio should be applied in RCC patients for risk stratification and clinical decision-making.

In this study CTCs were measured by the FISHMAN-R system, and CTCs drawn from a peripheral artery were collected just before and immediately after surgery. The number of pre- and postoperative CTCs and the perioperative changes in CTCs were measured for each surgical method.ResultsSix patients were excluded from the current analyses. Preoperative CTCs did not differ significantly by surgical approach (laparoscopic RN: 3.4  ± 4.2; laparoscopic PN: 3.4 ± 4.1; open RN: 7.7 ± 6.8; open PN: 6.0 ± 7.6;P = 0.19). Open RN resulted in ...

Authors: Kotulak-Chrzaszcz A, Klacz J, Matuszewski M, Kmiec Z, Wierzbicki PM Abstract Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common and the most aggressive histopathological subtype of kidney cancer, with patients exhibiting high mortality rates for metastatic tumors. The Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) pathway serves a crucial role in embryonic development. The abnormal activity of SHH signaling is observed in a broad range of malignancies. However, its role in ccRCC is still undetermined. The aim of the present study was to assess the expression of the SHH pathway genes in ccRCC. Neoplastic and morphologically ...

This study aimed to evaluate the factors associated with a survival benefit for patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) treated with sunitinib, with and without cytoreductive nephrectomy (CN). MATERIAL AND METHODS This retrospective clinical study included 118 patients with mRCC who were treated with CN and sunitinib (CN-sunitinib) (N=70) and with sunitinib-alone (N=48). Categorical clinicopathological variables were compared with hypothesis tests using contingency tables and a chi-squared test. Independent indicators for progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed with univariate a...
