AAV-Mediated Gene Delivery to Taste Cells of the Tongue. Methods Mol Biol. 2019;1950:299-307 Authors: Taruno A, Kashio M Abstract Taste sensation is initiated in sensory cells within the taste buds (taste cells), in which the cooperation of many signaling molecules leads to the coding and transmission of information on the quality and intensity of taste to the afferent gustatory nerves. Here, we describe our method for inducing foreign gene expression in taste cells of fungiform papillae in a living mouse using a recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector, enabling us to study and control the function of a gene product in vivo. Among the serotypes tested to date, only AAV-DJ, a synthetic serotype, can transduce taste cells in vivo. In this study, the prevalence of adenoviral conjunctivitis determined by hexon gene PCR in patients with clinical diagnosis of acute conjunctivitis was similar to the prevalence rate reported in other regions of the world. In our region, more than one type of hAdV type was associated with acute conjunctivitis. The predominant type was determined as hAdV-8 with a 63% ratio. These results will significantly contribute to the molecular epidemiology of hAdV types in conjunctivitis cases. PMID: 31414631 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSIONS In hyperoxia-induced rat models of BPD, hBD2 promotes alveolarization and improves pulmonary function. The mechanism may contribute in alleviating inflammation response and inhibiting pro-inflammatory factors including IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-alpha. PMID: 31411185 [PubMed - in process]
