T-Cell Receptor Excision Circles in Newborns with Congenital Heart Disease

To determine if children with congenital heart disease (CHD) have lower newborn T-cell receptor excision circles (TREC) levels than the general population and to evaluate if low TREC levels in newborns with CHD are associated with clinical complications such as hospitalization for infection.

The inhibition of miR‑101a‑3p alleviates H/R injury in H9C2 cells by regulating the JAK2/STAT3 pathway. Mol Med Rep. 2019 Nov 05;: Authors: Liu J, Wang J, Ning Y, Chen F Abstract Hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) is used as an in vivo model of ischemia/reperfusion injury, and myocardial ischemia can lead to heart disease. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent myocardial H/R injury to avoid the risk of heart disease. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether inhibiting microRNA (miR)‑101a‑3p attenuated H9C2 cell H/R injury, apoptosis mechanisms and key target proteins. Cell viabilit...

Kai‑Xin‑San suppresses matrix metalloproteinases and myocardial apoptosis in rats with myocardial infarction and depression. Mol Med Rep. 2019 Nov 06;: Authors: Hu Y, Dong X, Zhang T, Ma H, Yang W, Wang Y, Liu P, Chen Y Abstract Depression is often triggered by prolonged exposure to psychosocial stressors and associated with coronary heart disease (CHD). Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are involved in the pathogenesis of various emotional and cardiovascular disorders. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether Kai‑Xin‑San (KXS), which may terminate the signaling of MMPs, exerts antid...

Interleukin‑37 is increased in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of coronary heart disease patients and inhibits the inflammatory reaction. Mol Med Rep. 2019 Nov 06;: Authors: Li H, Shen C, Chen B, Du J, Peng B, Wang W, Chi F, Dong X, Huang Z, Yang C Abstract It has been universally acknowledged that interleukin‑37 (IL‑37) has an immunosuppressive effect on various inflammatory disorders. However, whether IL‑37 participates in the acute inflammation associated with coronary heart disease (CHD) has not yet been clarified. In the present study, the association between the serum levels of IL‑37...

Authors: Baumbach A, Dudek D, Baumgartner H, Windecker S, Haude M Abstract The field of valve intervention is rapidly changing. Clinical practice guidelines are based on evidence and practical clinical experience. The randomised trials considered for the guideline recommendations regarding indications for TAVI cover the high-risk and intermediate-risk subgroups of patients. With new evidence for low-risk patients, consideration has to be given to discussing TAVI as the default strategy in the majority of patients. This is a paradigm shift from the established practice. More than ever, the patient will be at the cen...

Over the last 5 years, there has been a real revolution in TAVI technology with the introduction of newer devices that aimed to simplify the procedure 1. These swift advances have transformed the...

Neurodevelopmental outcomes are quite important in patients with congenital heart disease. Studies with imaging have shown structural abnormalities that may be related to neurologic deficits. In this volume of The Journal, Claessens et al report on results comparing 2 cardiac surgery programs with different practice approaches to transition after birth, intensive care, and cardiac surgery. At both sites, MRI studies were done according to clinical protocol. The results confirm a high prevalence of brain injury at both sites.

In conclusion, EMPA can trigger AMPK signaling pathways and modulate myocardial contractility and reduce myocardial infarct size caused by ischemia and reperfusion independent of hypoglycemic effect. The results for the first time demonstrate that the activation of AMPK by EMPA could one reason about EMPA's beneficial effects on heart disease.Graphical abstract

Publication date: Available online 20 November 2019Source: Revista Española de Cardiología (English Edition)Author(s): Susana Ravassa, Arantxa González, Antoni Bayés-Genís, Josep Lupón, Javier DíezAbstractMyocardial interstitial fibrosis is a constant pathological finding in structural heart diseases of various etiologies that evolve with heart failure. Although fibrosis facilitates heart failure progression, until now no therapeutic strategy has been developed that ensures its reversal. A possible explanation for this may lie in the vision of myocardial interstitial fibrosi...
