Effectiveness of a Community-based AF Screening Program: A Pilot Study
Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia and a significant cause of morbidity. It is most prevalent in individuals 65+ years and those with comorbidity. One third of individuals with AF are asymptomatic and unaware of their elevated risk of complications. Therefore, a targeted, community-based screening program is likely to be clinically- and cost-effective.
