Flu Season Update: New Recommendations From The CDC

The influenza virus has spread widely this season and hospitalization rates have increased sharply in recent weeks for vulnerable populations.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends that clinicians should not wait for lab confirmation of the influenza virus before beginning antiviral treatment in patients at high risk for developing flu-related complications. More information about Antiviral Treatment Recommendations can be found online: http://1.usa.gov/14C4NZX Though the flu season has already begun, it is not too late to get vaccinated.  There is a good match between this year’s vaccine and the circulating virus, making the vaccine an excellent source of protection.
