2.5 yr old covered in hives and nobody knows why! please help

Before my sons second birthday he started getting hives on his legs and the doctor just thought they were bug bites. The hives would go away and come back for unknown reasons. He has had labs run from his peditrician, allergist, and gastrointestinal Dr. and everyone seems to be clueless. Everything always comes back normal, how can this be? After starting Zyrtec in june of 2012 it seemed to help with his outbreaks and I saw a totally different child. He wasnt talking at 2 years old or doing much of anything other than screaming, hitting and scratching me and because of his anger and him not talking it was suggested that he may be autistic. He started seeing an occupational therapist and we were all amazed when one day he started counting, saying his colors, and he even recognized his numbers and shapes and could tell you what they were, all in one day. He knew these things all along but he felt so bad he just couldnt talk. He is not autistic and after calming his hives done the changes we have seen in him are amazing he has minor break outs that dont last more than a few days....Until recently... January 13 he started the gluten free diet to just see if it could help and it hasnt helped with his hives although it has helped with his chronic diarrhea. Can the hives and diarrhea have something in common? His stools started getting more solid and turning black days after the diet change but there was still no improovement with hives.
