Strategies for Prevention and Treatment of Peritoneal Fibrosis: A Scientometric Study

Background:Interest in using peritoneal dialysis (PD) shows global and national increase. However, it remains a challenge to prevent the progression of PD ‑associated fbrosis in clinical practice. Here, we assessed the status of scientifc publications in prevention and management of PD‑associated fbrosis in a scientometric study.Methods:We retrieved the bibliometric data by search terms “encapsulating peritoneal fbrosis,” “treatment or prevention,” and their synonyms in the Scopus databases until December 2, 2017. We present a series of 3 PD patients who developed iron overload while receiving FC for management of hyperphosphatemia. These cases highlight the importance of close monitoring of iron studies and question whether a lower maximum dose of FC should be recommended in PD patients. Further studies are needed to assess the safety of the maximum approved dose of FC among PD patients.
