Pilot study of totally thoracoscopic periareolar approach for minimally invasive mitral valve surgery. Towards even less invasive?

Conclusions: The study proved that TTP-minimally invasive surgery was safe and feasible in mitral and tricuspid valve surgery. It has been associated with superior esthetics. Mitral repairs performed through TTP access are durable in mid-term observation. PMID: 31119001 [PubMed]

ConclusionsOur study underscores the importance of an accurate clinical bed-side assessment as the first step in the diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making process for patients presenting with aphasia. The detection of clinical and anamnestic features associated with an epileptic SM could be useful for the diagnostic process and for time-critical treatments.

We investigate gender differences in clinical characteristics and outcomes in ischemic stroke patients with high-grade ICA stenosis. Three-hundred and seventy-two acute ischemic stroke patients with high-grade ICA stenosis were enrolled and followed up for 5 years. Demographic features, vascular risk factors, co-morbidities, and o...

Learning is perceived as a process of personal and social construction where people are actively involved in making sense of information they interact with, rather than passively receiving it (Kuhthau 2004). This cumulative and developmental process involves the whole person in thinking, acting, reflecting, discovering ideas, making connections, and transforming prior knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values into new knowledge (Dewey 1933). I’m an educator for much of my time. When I think about it, I’ve been an educator for most of my clinical career – after all, when I helped people learn how to show...

Photo: Marcus Rose   The growing number of workers and union activists facing mental health issues need better support, delegates at the UNISON water, environment and transport conference in Liverpool declared today. Paul Smith, from Yorkshire Water, said employers were ignorant about mental health. “They pile on the pressure and there are far too many heart attacks, far too many suicides, far too many strokes,” he declared. This is particularly true in contact centres, where employers not only expect members to deal with customer queries within specific timescales but also face restrictions on the number ...

Conclusion: Many predictors of ICH were identified, however, given the lack of robust evidence, larger cohort studies should be prioritized to confirm these predictors. PMID: 31200607 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

In this study, predictors of LOS were identified using a survival model that considered age as a continuous variable, separate comorbidities, and the discharge destination. Our findings are consistent with earlier reports and confirm the strong associations linking LOS to diabetes, day of surgery, and discharge destination in France. We also identified predictors of discharge to rehabilitation and of readmission within 30 days.Level of evidenceIV, retrospective observational cohort study.

In conclusion, our study provides novel evidence that rhFGF21 can enhance the angiogenesis and migration of HBMECs through the formation of the FGF21/FGFR1/β-klotho complex via PPARγ activation and eNOS upregulation, indicating that FGF21 is a potential therapeutic angiogenic agent for the treatment of human brain injury.
