AbstractStreptococcus is well associated with a myriad of inflammatory diseases. Among others, this bacterium is linked to the triggering of psoriasis and to post-streptococcal reactive arthritis (PSRA), an arthritis which is typically confined to peripheral joints. Three patients who developed acute psoriatic spondyloarthritis (SpA) following a recent streptococcal infection are described in this article. We searched the existing literature for cases of axial involvement in PSRA and reviewed the association between streptococcal infection and psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis )PsA). In all patients, psoriatic SpA occurred ...

Abstract BACKGROUND: PASI90 is suggested to be the new standard endpoint RCTs of biologics for psoriasis, whereas treatment guidelines often still refer to PASI75. OBJECTIVES: To analyse in a real-world setting: Firstly, what factors are associated with higher levels of treatment response to biologics. Secondly, the Health-Related Quality of Life gains associated with different response levels in clinical practice. METHODS: Biologically-naïve patients with PASI, DLQI and EQ-5D outcomes before (maximum 6 months) and after (3-12 months) switch to biologics during registration in the Swedish Register f...

This study is based on data from IMS® Diagnosis Monitor and included patients who had received a biological drug in dermatology practices due to psoriasis (PSO), gastroenterology practices due to Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC), or rheumatology practices due to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) between April 2015 and December 2018. We analyzed 1,748,948 CD/UC-related prescriptions, 3,968,879 RA-related prescriptions, and 7,321,496 PSO-related prescriptions. Of these, 343,263 (19.6%) prescriptions for IBD, 92,343 (16.2%) prescriptions for RA, and 169,573 (6.9%) prescriptions for PSO were for biologicals. The pro...

Conclusions: Hyperhomocystienemia in psoriasis patients with or without comorbidities versus healthy controls suggests its possible dysregulation in psoriasis. The significance of hyperhomocystienemia as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular or other comorbidities in psoriasis patients remains tenuous at best. Well-designed studies will perhaps resolve this issue. PMID: 31309792 [PubMed - in process]
