Anyone who remembers the days before finger stick blood glucose meters became available to people with diabetes will recall how awful life was for diabetics. All they had was urine dipsticks which were sloppy, yielded only crude non-quantitative feedback on blood sugars, and gave you a gauge of what blood sugars were in the recent past, not the present. It meant that dosing insulin or diabetes drugs was grotesquely imprecise and accounted for many episodes of hypoglycemic coma and acceleration of diabetic complications. It was not uncommon in those days, for instance, for a type 1 diabetic to be blind and experience kidney...

The growing interest in the preclinical stage of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) led investigators to identify modifiable risk and predictive factors useful to design early intervention strategies. The preclinical stage of AD is characterized by β-Amyloid (Aβ) aggregation into amyloid plaques and tau phosphorylation and aggregation into neurofibrillary tangles (NFT). There is a general consensus on the importance of sleep within this context: the bidirectional relationship between sleep and AD pathology is supported by growing evidence that proved the occurrence of sleep changes starting from the preclinical stage...

AbstractAssistive technology (AT) involvement in therapeutic treatment has provided simple and efficient healthcare solutions to people. Within a short span of time, mobile health (mHealth) has grown rapidly for assisting people living with a chronic disorder. This research paper presents the comprehensive study to identify and review existing mHealth dementia applications (apps), and also synthesize the evidence of using these applications in assisting people with dementia including Alzheimer ’s disease (AD) and their caregivers. Six electronic databases searched with the purpose of finding literature-based evidence...

Discussion and conclusionNon-linear registration methods were most consistent in determining hippocampal atrophy and because of their better reproducibility, methods, such as ANTs, Elastix and NiftyReg, are preferred for determining hippocampal atrophy rates on longitudinal MRI. Since performances of non-linear registration methods are well comparable, the preferred method would mostly depend on computational efficiency.
