Risk of contralateral breast and ipsilateral lung cancer induction from forward-planned IMRT for breast carcinoma
Breast cancer is the most common neoplasm in women of the United States of America [1] and Europe [2]. The improvements associated with the detection and the treatment of this disease have resulted in a considerable reduction of the mortality rate by 39% from 1989 to 2015 [1]. The five-year survival rate from all types of breast carcinomas reaches to 89.7% nowadays [3]. The probability for developing a breast malignancy increases exponentially up to the age of menopause [4]. Based on the most recent SEER report [3], 10.5% of the new breast cancer cases are up to 44 years old whereas 20.4% of the cases belongs to the age group of 45–54 years.
