Proton Pump Inhibitors and Hypomagnesemia
Patient is a 73-year-old female with chronic kidney disease 3 who presented to the hospital with abnormal lab results through a primary care doctor's office. Magnesium level was 0.6 mg/dL and calcium 6.6 mg/dL despite being on chronic oral magnesium, calcium supplements and one time outpatient mg infusion. Patient had a chronic mild hypomagnesemia [magnesium range between 1.4-1.6 mg/dl] and hypocalcemia [calcium range 7.5-8.1 mg/dl] for the past 1.5 years despite being on oral supplements.
