Further Evidence on Cardiorespiratory Fitness as a Key Factor for the Metabolically Healthy Obese Phenotype Independent of the Race
Obesity is a major problem in childhood and adolescence in most of the developed and developing countries. Obesity is related with a myriad of metabolic abnormalities such as higher levels of metabolic risk factors and type 2 diabetes and also with higher risk of all-cause and cardiovascular disease mortality [1]. However, in 2001, Brochu et al. [2] identified a subset of individuals who, despite being obese, presented a healthy metabolic profile (named as metabolically healthy but obese phenotype [MHO]).
