High-frequency rTMS for treatment of myalgic encephalitis: a case series study

Background: Recent studies have reported that brain abnormalities in patients with myalgic encephalitits (ME), including the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) in the prefrontal cortex, correlate with fatigue symptom. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) was recently introduced as a safe non-invasive therapeutic modality for some neurological disorders, acting through modulation of cortical neural activity. However, there are no studies that have examined the effects of rTMS in ME patients.
