Fluoroquinolone prophylaxis is highly effective for the prevention of central line-associated bloodstream infections in autologous stem cell transplant patients

Over the past decade, rates of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) have been reduced by over 50% among hospitalized patients through the implementation of standardized infection prevention strategies. [1,2] However, CLABSIs remain common in patients with hematologic malignancy and are associated with significant morbidity and mortality, including an increased risk of acute graft-versus host disease (GVHD), prolonged lengths of stay, and up to a 7-fold increased risk of death.
