Improving quality in cardiometabolic medicine real-world evidence
Real-world evidence — defined broadly as evidence obtained from observational studies that focus on the real-world performance of health-related technology, devices, medications, and interventions—plays an important role in clinical decision making. The proliferation of electronic medical records databases has resu lted in a marked increase in the publication of real-world studies. However, real-world studies have many limitations and the results must be interpreted carefully. The research community should develop methods to standardise reporting and assessment of real-world studies and to foster discussions o n the application of real-world evidence to clinical decision making.
