Effects of root canal irrigations on intracanal medication with calcium hydroxide effects in root external resorption models

ConclusionThis study demonstrated that a combination of EDTA and sodium hypochlorite with ultrasonic irrigation was most effective in removing the smear layer and ion diffusion from the root canal to the surrounding media.

Pubic symphysis septic arthritis is rare. To our knowledge, pubic symphysis septic arthritis caused by Pasteurella multocida has not been previously reported. A 79-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with a 3-day history of progressively severe left groin pain and swelling with unintentional 20-lb weight loss. Physical examination was negative except for the presence of a tender, fluctuant mass approximately 6 × 2-cm dimensions extending from the midpubic symphysis area to the left femoral crease. Computed tomography scan of the abdomen/pelvis confirmed a multiloculated mass in the area of the pubic ...

We, herein report a 15 month otherwise healthy child, who presented with hyphema, vitreous hemorrhage and secondary glaucoma following a vague history of trauma in the left eye 2 months before presentation. He presented a week later with features of panophthalmitis which were confirmed on B-scan and orbital CT scan. CT scan with contrast revealed the presence of ...

CONCLUSIONS: BCS should be differentiated from other round cell tumors. Some cytologic features, especially rhabdoid-like cells, connective tissue fragments, and pseudopapillary formations, combined with immunohistochemical and molecular studies, may be helpful in making the appropriate diagnosis. This study aimed to investigate the circulation of L. infantum among sylvatic hosts in Sicily (southern Italy), a highly endemic area for canine leishmaniosis, through serological and molecular tools. Target tissues (skin, spleen, lymph nodes) collected from 71 European rabbits, 2 European hares, 7 red foxes, 11 European wildcats and 1 pin. marten, were qPCR analysed for the detection of L. infantum DNA. Additionally, 40 rabbits, older than one year, were serologically screened for specific anti-Leishmania antibodies. Leishmania infantum was molecularly diagnosed in 5.4% (n = 5) of the examined animals...

ConclusionThe Er:YAG laser is effective in the removal of dental hard tissue without damaging the pulp when coupled with ideal energy output. It is widely used in different dental fields. It needs time to be accepted by dentist and patients and further studies are required to explore its advantages.

This study compared results of interferon-gamma release assays (IGRA) between contacts of pulmonary TB patients with AFB smear positivity and those with smear negativity using QuantiFERON®-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT) assays. Close contacts of TB patients with culture-confirmed infections between April 2010 and December 2012 in Ibaraki, Japan, were enrolled, and 439 Japanese contacts of 129 index TB patients were examined. Adjusted odds ratios of QFT in contacts were 0.68 (95% confidence interval: 0.17–2.8) for AFB scanty patients, 1.12 (0.45–2.8) for AFB 1+, 1.20 (0.48–3.0) for AFB 2+, and 4...

This study is to compare the cleaning effectiveness of two Ni-Ti files systems. Thirty single-rooted human teeth were selected and two NiTi rotary systems were used. Group A: canal shaping with ProTaper® Universal (Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties, Tulsa, OK) (PTU); Group B: (n=15) canal shaping with Mtwo Ni-Ti instruments (Sweden and Martina, Padova, Italy) and apical finishing with Mtwo Apical Ni-Ti instruments (Sweden and Martina, Padova, Italy). The amount of debris and smear layer were quantified on a basis of a numerical evaluation scale. The data established for scoring the debris and the smear layer was record...

ConclusionsMinimal deviation adenocarcinoma represents one of rare cervical adenocarcinomas without HPV-association. While it is crucial to differentiate benign from malignant lesions in this subtype, imaging characteristics often overlap and may not provide a specific diagnosis. Therefore, it should be considered in suspicious multicystic cervical lesions and inconclusive PAP-smear. Definitive diagnosis of this subtype should be based on cervical biopsy.
