Ethical, Legal, Social Implications of Citizen Science - Day 2

This workshop will explore a variety of interconnected issues needing further discussion which include the transparency of research in regards to its aims and goals, the privacy and security of personally-generated data, the challenges to engage diverse populations and how to earn/build trust with communities that may be skeptical or unwilling to work with the government or share their personal data. We intend to invite 25-30 attendees for a two-day discussion that will highlight ongoing studies exploring these topics and we will work towards finding ways to promote adoption of best practices to a growing citizen science field that could benefit from thoughtful harmonization. The workshop is designed as a scientific exchange meeting in direct support of the goals and mission of the NIH and will inform program staff and the larger NIH community about the challenges and opportunities around the study of the ethical, legal, policy, and social implications of participatory research or citizen driven research.Air date: 1/14/2015 8:00:00 AM
