47.2 Pediatric Medicine Update: An Overview of Pediatric Palliative Care, Common Symptom Management, and the Transition From Acute to Chronic Pain Management
Each year in the United States, there are just over 45,000 deaths of infants, children, and adolescents. Pediatric palliative care has emerged to improve the care of these patients, not only at the end of life but also to be integrated into care from the time of diagnosis with life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses. This talk will review the philosophies of palliative and hospice care for children followed by a more detailed discussion of common palliative care symptom management in children with advanced illness and at the end of life.
