AIBS Researchers to Present Findings at Science of Team Science Conference

The findings of an American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS) study on the effects of discussion and differences in application scoring between teleconference versus in-person grant peer review panels will be reported at the 2015 Science of Team Science (SciTS) Conference this 3-5 June 2015. The conference is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and will be held at its headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland. "AIBS has a decades long history of conducting peer review for government and non-government organizations that fund scientific research. As part of the organization's commitment to providing decision-makers with high-quality, reliable, useable information, AIBS conducts original research on various aspects of different models of peer review," said Scott Glisson, Interim Co-Executive Director and head of the organization's Scientific Peer Advisory and Review Services division. Quality peer review is critical to the advancement of science. It plays an important role in helping funders allocate billions of dollars each year in research funding. "Thus, it is important to understand the different models used in peer review so we may better understand the strengths and limitations of the process and continue to maintain our standard of excellence," said Glisson. Expanding upon previous AIBS research published in PLOS ONE, AIBS examined the effect of meeting discussions on shifts in review scoring for grant applications evaluated in face-to-face and tele...
