Artificial intelligence can determine lung cancer type

(NYU Langone Health / NYU School of Medicine) A new computer program can analyze images of patients' lung tumors, specify cancer types, and even identify altered genes driving abnormal cell growth, a new study shows.

In conclusion, this is the first report to show that pyroptotic cell death occurs in the aging brain and that the inflammasome can be a viable target to decrease the oxidative stress that occurs as a result of aging. Reducing Levels of Protein Manufacture Slows Measures of Aging in Nematodes Researchers here demonstrate that an antibiotic slows aging in nematode worms, providing evidence for it to work through a reduction in protein synthesis. Beyond a slowing of aging, one of the con...

Authors: Fard NN, Noorbazargan H, Mirzaie A, Hedayati Ch M, Moghimiyan Z, Rahimi A Abstract Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using Artemisia oliveriana extract, and their physicochemical characteristics were studied. The antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of the AgNPs, as well as their anticancer effects on the lung cancer cell line (A549), using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), MIC and 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) techniques respectively demonstrated that the synthesized AgNPs mainly affected the gram-positive bacteria rather than the gram-negative bac...

This study systematically investigates the impact of geometric imaging parameters on the ability of 2D cine MR imaging to guide template-matching-driven autocontouring of lung tumors and abdominal organs. Abdominal 4D MR images were acquired of six healthy volunteers and thoracic 4D MR images were obtained of eight lung cancer patients. At each breathing phase of the images, the left kidney and gallbladder or lung tumor, respectively, were outlined as volumes of interest. These images and contours were used to create artificial 2D cine MR images, while simultaneously serving as 3D ground truth. We explored the impact of fi...

Conclusions: In most studied scenarios, despite prior exposure to intensive chemotherapy, survivors of DLBCL or HL received adjuvant chemotherapy for common cancers at similar rates relative to patients with no history of lymphoma. Therefore, contrary to prior suggestions, differences in application of chemotherapy cannot explain survival disparities between lymphoma survivors and other patients with the same cancers. HL survivors had consistently worse OS even in the subpopulation receiving chemotherapy, suggesting that other (e.g. cardiovascular) sources of mortality related to late toxicities of HL treatment may be cont...

Conclusions:In population-based analyses, the survival of t-MDS remains dismal with outcomes particularly worse with advancing age and following primary cancer sites that are typically managed with combined modality regimens including chemotherapy and radiation. Findings from the real-world population level data such as this should be used as outcome benchmarks in clinical trials to assess therapeutic effectiveness of experimental treatments.DisclosuresGerds: Apexx Oncology: Consultancy; Celgene: Consultancy; Incyte: Consultancy; CTI Biopharma: Consultancy. Conclusions: Atezo plus dara and in combination with len or pom demonstrated acceptable tolerability; no new safety signals were identified. Some pts treated with either atezo plus dara or atezo plus dara and IMiD appeared to have deep and durable responses. The benefit-risk profile of atezo in combination with dara with/without pom in R/R MM pts is promising. These early data support continuation of the study.DisclosuresCho: Agenus Inc.: Research Funding; F.
