In Reply —Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Herpes Zoster: Could the Link Be Ignored?

We thank Dr Winceslaus for his comments on our article. We agree that human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is an important risk factor for herpes zoster (HZ).1,2 In our article, we stated that “the risk of HZ is elevated in patients with immunocompromising conditions, including bone marrow or solid organ transplant, hematologic and solid malignancies, and human immunodeficiency virus/AIDS.” Because prior reviews have documented that age and immunocompromising conditions are important risk factors for HZ, we did not review the literature on HIV.
