Evaluation of quality of life after implementation of a clinical decision support tool for guiding chronic opioid therapy in a veteran population
Background: Opioid over-prescribing has created a national public health epidemic. The Veterans Health Administration ’s (VHA) paradigm shift in chronic non-cancer pain treatment started with the Opioid Safety Initiative in 2013. In 2014, The Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 21 implemented a clinical decision support tool (CDST) for guiding chronic opioid therapy (COT). To assist clinicians in monitorin g pain intensity and interference with activity and enjoyment of life, the CDST utilizes the Pain average, Enjoyment of life, and General activity (PEG) assessment scale.
