Prevalence of cervical infection with HPV of high oncogenic potential (HR HPV) in immunosuppressed female on renal replacement therapy with and without mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitors

Chronic immunosuppression constitutes a risk factor of HPV-related cervical cancer development. Maintenance immunosuppression with mTOR inhibitors is associated with decreased incidence of de novo malignancies in kidney graft recipients. Recently published data suggest that mTOR inhibitors interfere with viral replication. The aim of the study was to assess if there is a difference in prevalence of HPV cervical infection in female on immunosuppressive regimens with or without mTOR inhibitors.
