Takotsubo: One, no one and one hundred thousand diseases

We thank Dr. Y-Hassan for his comments regarding our recently published article [1]. He agrees with us that the condition is not a cardiomyopathy and that, in view of the understanding of its pathophysiology [2], it should be labelled as Takotsubo Syndrome (TS). Conversely, Dr. Y-Hassan believes that experimental (i.e. dobutamine-induced forms of TS) and pathologic data (i.e., the evidence of contraction band necrosis) are in contrast with our proposal to consider the disease as part of the spectrum of ischemic heart disease.
