582 Measurement of pruritus associated with chronic kidney disease: A qualitative study of two patient-reported outcome instruments

Chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) is a debilitating chronic itching condition frequently reported in end stage renal disease patients, with no approved treatments in the United States (US). As the sensation of itching can only be assessed by patient report, reliable, valid and sensitive patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are required to demonstrate treatment benefits in studies of therapies under development for treatment of pruritus in hemodialysis (HD) patients. The purpose of this study was to conduct qualitative interviews in HD patients to evaluate the content validity of two existing PRO instruments, the Worst Itching Intensity Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) to measure itch intensity and the Skindex-10 scale to assess itch-related quality of life (QoL) measures including mood and social functioning.
