Self-reported trauma and pain interference in post-surgical patients with non-metastatic breast cancer

History of trauma has been linked with increased pain and poorer pain outcomes in the chronic pain literature but less is known about how past trauma may impact post-surgical pain in breast cancer patients. Regression analysis was used to investigate the effect of prior trauma-related distress on pain interference, controlling for current pain intensity, cancer stage, age, and time since surgery; and whether current depressive symptomology intervenes on the relationship between past trauma-related distress and pain interference following surgery.
