Successful Nonoperative Treatment of a Lumbar Spine Extension Injury with Disruption of all Three Bony Columns in a Patient with Ankylosing Spondylitis - A Case Report.

Conclusion: This case supports our hypothesis that the fracture pattern is an important factor in patients with ankylosing spondylitis and adds to the body of knowledge in the scientific literature concerning non-operative treatment of fractures in patients with ankylosed spines. Further study is required to determine whether ours is an isolated case or whether this applies to a wider population of ankylosing spondylitis patients. PMID: 29399213 [PubMed]

ConclusionBoth TA and AS have no significant adverse effects on pregnancy if diagnosed and timely treated properly. When they occur concomitantly, more attention and care is needed to prevent complications.

AbstractPsoriatic arthritis (PsA) is an inflammatory arthritis with distinct phenotypic subtypes. Enthesitis is assigned as a hallmark of the disease, given its significant relations to disease activity and quality of life. Our objective is to evaluate the prevalence of enthesitis and its association with some clinical parameters, particularly quality of life, using data from a national registry. Patients with PsA meeting ClASsification criteria for Psoriatic Arthritis (CASPAR) were enrolled by means of a multi-centre Turkish League Against Rheumatism (TLAR) Network Project. The following information was recorded in web-ba...

We report the case of a 47-year-old patient, diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 14. Two decades later, she was diagnosed with frontal chordoid meningioma, which was surgically removed, without radiotherapy. She was re-operated 10 years later for recurrence of meningioma. At the age of 39, she was diagnosed with bilateral avascular necrosis of the humeral head, femoral head and scaphoid bones. In the same year, she was also diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. We considered that the occurrence of rare chordoid meningioma, avascular necrosis with multiple locations and bilateral involvement in a patient with a m...

Inhibitors of Janus kinases (JAKs) are being developed for treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases and other immune-mediated diseases. Tofacitinib is effective in treatment of ulcerative colitis, but there are safety concerns. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the safety profile of tofacitinib, upadacitinib, filgotinib, and baricitinib in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel diseases, psoriasis, or ankylosing spondylitis.

Abstract BACKGROUND: Andersson lesions (ALs), also known as spondylodiscities, destructive vertebral lesions and spinal pseudarthrosis, usually occur in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Inflammatory and traumatic causes have been proposed to define this lesion. Different surgical approaches including anterior, posterior, and combined anterior and posterior procedure have been used to address the complications, consisting of mechanical pain, kyphotic deformity, and neurologic deficits. However, the preferred surgical procedure remains controversial. The aim of this study was to illustrate the safety, effi...
