Huge demand for Nutrition Society training at ANEC VI in Ghana

The Nutrition Society's 'Scientific Writing for Publication' training workshop was a runaway success at the 6th African Nutrition Epidemiology Conference (ANEC VI) in Accra, Ghana.The workshop was free to attend to all conference registrants. Places were full days before the actual date of the workshop. Yet people queued up at seven that morning, hoping one or two places would become free at the last minute. Course tutor Dr Basma Ellahi was delighted with the response and the enthusiasm of students who attended the session. She said:"There was a real thirst for learning at ANEC. There is a tangible need and desire amongst African nations for capacity building. They know they need more professionally trained nutritionists and dietitians to help improve the health and wellbeing of their populations. "Scientific writing is an essential skill for all students and graduates and plays a critical role in effective reporting of research results in scientific journals, and often provides information that helps others interpret their own data. "Communicating research findings contributes to the pool of knowledge in any discipline. Part of scientific writing is to know where and how to submit your work. Peer-reviewed academic journals only accept papers for publication after a stringent review process that guarantees not only the highest standards, but brings in collaborations and opens (or enhances) future scientists' careers in research and academia."
