It was almost Good Bye Cruel World! – Jaishree’s Story

The title says it all really. They almost lost me on the operating table when I had my hysterectomy and oophorectomy! It was a three year battle with the NHS to recognise the fact that I was bleeding buckets every two weeks and the pain – worse than labour pain. Was told maybe its fibroids, had scans and then was told the fibroids are too small (duh!). Not one GP (of the three who saw me) thought of referring me to a Gynae. Then when I had my MRI for a broken back, they discoverd I had fibroids as a side issue and I went to see a Gynae privately. Had a laprosocopy and was told endometriosis. Was 46 by this time. Given some pills to swallow, and no joy. Decided, have child and not going to have anymore, so asked him if I could have the H op – he was brilliant – discussed all the risks and it was finally the day! Was told it would be a 45 minute op, but when he went in, found that the endo had lovingly embraced my lower instetine and bladder and of course the uterus was a mess. There were three grapefruit size balls – not in the uterus but in the pelvis (what?). I had been bleeding from both the endo and the fibroids. Took him six hours to clean up my insides and lost about 4 pints of blood. It was the skill of the surgeon that saved my life that day and the fact that someone up there was not ready for me!
