This study aimed to analyze the effect of individual differences and family variables on life satisfaction and depression in the oldest old compared with the young-old. A total of 1,799 cases from an 8-year period of the Korean Welfare Panel Study (2006-2013) were analyzed. A key finding was that life satisfaction significantly increased with time for the two groups of older adults while depression decreased. Moreover, family relationship satisfaction significantly affected both life satisfaction and depression in both groups. However, its impact was stronger for the oldest old. Finally, individual difference variables, th...

Authors: Ishihara Y, Sugawa T, Kaneko H, Hiroshima-Hamanaka K, Amano A, Umakoshi H, Tsuiki M, Kusakabe T, Satoh-Asahara N, Shimatsu A, Tagami T Abstract We herein report two cases of patients with thyroid storm with a delayed diagnosis due to psychosis. In this study, a link between mitochondrial changes and infant temperament has also been suggested. Maternal psychosocial stress and lifetime trauma have been associated with decreased mitochondrial DNA copy number in the placenta (115, 116).IndividualityChronic stress links changes in the epigenetic landscape with health conditions (117). Different cell types are characterized by distinct patterns of gene expression due to developmental, environmental, physiological, and pathological reasons (117). Epigenetic mechanisms affect gene function in a dynamic way as a result of different environmental exposures during fetal dev...

There is nothing more frustrating than when the cure is part of the problem. The scale is used to monitor feelings of anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. A patient’s response is the main test used for treatment. But if 1 means that a person feels ecstatic, and 10 means they are suicidal, what is a 6 or a 3? What happens if a patient feels like something is wrong, but nothing has happened? Or if they can’t stop crying since their dog died last week? How much of an impact do average issues have? Are they really feeling an 8 or...
