Risk factors for postoperative pneumonia after microsurgery for vestibular schwannoma

Vestibular schwannoma (VS) is a rare benign tumour which arises in most cases from the schwann cells of the vestibular part of the eighth cranial nerve [1]. The incidence of VS is estimated to 1.9 per 100,000 per year [2]. Microsurgery is one of the primary current standard options for the treatment of VS [3]. Despite improvements in surgical techniques, intraoperative monitoring and anesthesia, complications continue to occur with considerable incidence [4].It is reported that the overall complication rate for VS surgery is 28.2% [5].
