Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most common underlying cause of death worldwide accounting for an estimated 17.3 million of 54 million total deaths in 2013, and 31.5% of all global deaths. Ischemic heart disease caused an estimated 8.2 million deaths in 2013, and 6.5 million individuals died from stroke worldwide, making stroke the second-leading cause of death [1].
