Impact of diversity of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae strains on lung lesions in slaughter pigs

In conclusion, many differentM. hyopneumoniae strains were found, and batches of slaughter pigs with differentM. hyopneumoniae strains had a higher prevalence and severity ofMycoplasma-like lung lesions at slaughter, implying that reducing the number of different strains may lead to less lung lesions at slaughter and better respiratory health of the pigs.

We herein report a case of osimertinib-induced interstitial lung disease (OsiILD) with an organizing pneumonia (OP) pattern and provide a literature-based review.Six months after osimertinib administration, a 75-year-old woman with right pleural carcinomatosis developed ILD with an OP pattern. After salvage chemotherapy, osimertinib with corticosteroid was successfully re-administered. A literature review suggest...

ChungAbstractObjective: The purpose of the study is to investigate the risk of preventable hospitalization among patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).Methods: We identified 11,852 incident RA patients and 59,260 age-, sex-, and index year-matched controls from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Database. Index date was the RA diagnosis date for cases, which was assigned to their matched controls. The odds ratios (OR) of preventable hospitalizations between RA patients...

ConclusionsA high prevalence of antibiotic use was observed in the 18 Brazilian hospitals. The antibiotics were prescribed mainly empirically. Intravenous broad-spectrum antibiotics were the most frequent antimicrobials used, showing that reinforcement of de-escalation strategy is needed. The Global-PPS data can be very useful for monitoring stewardship programmes and intervention.

CONCLUSIONS: Although the positivity of any troponin assay is associated with high mortality post-TBI, the use of HsTnT relatively outperforms the conventional troponin assay for early risk stratification and detection of stress-induced myocyte injury in patients with TBI. Further studies are needed to support our findings. PMID: 31789007 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Bagai S, Prakash A, Agrawal A Abstract Aim: To determine the proportion of patients who have Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), identify severity of AKI using RIFLE criteria and to identify associated factors with AKI. Methods: One thousand consecutive medical in-patients were screened for AKI and severity assessed using RIFLE criteria in tertiary care hospital in Northern India. Patients with medical renal disease and obstructive uropathy were excluded. Serum creatinine of all patients were done on days 0, 3, 7 and 14. CKD cases were also excluded. AKI patients were followed at 4 weeks and 3 months. Resul...

Here we are reporting the synthesis of amphiphilic calixarene and its evaluation as drug delivery system. Water soluble amphiphilic p-sulfonatocalix[6]arene was synthesized through sulfonationand lipophilic conjugation on itsupper and lower rims respectively. The sy...

This study is registered with ISRCTN, ISRCTN65937227, and, NCT01972425.FindingsBetween Nov 6, 2013, and Sept 13, 2016, 360 patients were screened for inclusion in the study. 146 patients were ineligible, leaving 214 who were recruited to the study. Four patients were excluded before randomisation, meaning that 210 patients were randomly assigned to biomarker-guided recommendation on antibiotics (n=104) or routine use of antibiotics (n=106). One patient in the biomarker-guided recommendation group was withdrawn by the clinical team before bronchoscopy and so was excluded from the intention-to-treat analys...

By SAURABH JHA, MD Slumdog TB No one knows who gave Rahul Roy tuberculosis. Roy’s charmed life as a successful trader involved traveling in his Mercedes C class between his apartment on the plush Nepean Sea Road in South Mumbai and offices in Bombay Stock Exchange. He cared little for Mumbai’s weather. He seldom rolled down his car windows – his ambient atmosphere, optimized for his comfort, rarely changed. Historically TB, or “consumption” as it was known, was a Bohemian malady; the chronic suffering produced a rhapsody which produced fine art. TB was fashionable in Victorian Britain...
