Paleo Diet vs. Sw. Diet for Multiple Sclerosis: Can Either Help Fatigue?

When the National Multiple Sclerosis Society announced last week that it was funding a study on nutrition and MS fatigue, many in the multiple sclerosis world were excited. When those people found out the research was to be conducted by controversial MS figure Terry Wahls, MD, enthusiasm waned for some — but the Society is holding the researchers to very high standards. I look forward to the results in about four years’ time. The study proposes to compare subjects’ standard diet with either the Wahls Protocol (a modified Paleolithic diet) or the Sw. MS Diet (a low-saturated-fat diet) as it relates to MS fatigue. Proponents of both diets have made claims of results that go beyond MS-related fatigue, but this study will only be looking at fatigue. The study will take place at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
