The objective of this agreement is to: 1) provide youth opportunities to work in National Parks, 2) provide youth an introduction to careers in conservation and natural resource management, 3) to educate youth on the management decisions, management techniques, and operations required to manage natural resources, 4) to control invasive plants known to be a public nuisance including plants designated as noxious weeds under state or federal laws, and 5) to restore plant communities within national parks through the use of prescribed fire, vegetation removal, and vegetation planting. This will be accomplished by partnering with the Recipient to conduct vegetation management projects in fifteen NPS units that comprise the Heartland Inventory and Monitoring Network - http://science.nature.nps.gov/im/units/htln/ Recipient Involvement: The Conservation Corps of Minnesota and Iowa will provide the following items and services: 1. Recruit, select, and train 15 youth interns (18-25 years of age), working as three five-person teams. 2. Recruit, select, and train 3 team leaders to supervise teams and interact with NPS staff. 3. Manage a robust safety program designed to reduce risk associated with travel, field work, and job-related illness. 4.
