Polymorphism in apoptotic BAX (-248G>A) gene but not in anti-apoptotic BCL2 (-938C>A) gene and its protein and mRNA expression are associated with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia

In conclusion, our data provide evidence that allele G carriers in the BAX-248G>A promoter SNP may influence the development of SIL. However, this genotype does not influence the SIL outcome. Additionally, we suggest a possible role of HPV infection in the inhibition of the expression of BAX protein, decreasing cell death, and favoring cervical carcinogenesis.

Ballaschova David Cibula The data on the prognostic significance of low volume metastases in lymph nodes (LN) are inconsistent. The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze the outcome of a large group of patients treated with sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy at a single referral center. Patients with cervical cancer, stage T1a-T2b, common tumor types, negative LN on preoperative staging, treated by primary surgery between 01/2007 and 12/2016, with at least unilateral SLN detection were included. Patients with abandoned radical surgery due to intraoperative SLN positivity detected by frozen section were excl...

Authors: Lum C, Prenen H, Body A, Lam M, Segelov E Abstract INTRODUCTION: Anal cancer is a rare malignancy with increasing incidence, notably in women. This disease is highly associated with HPV infection and its incidence and mortality are currently rising. Most patients present with localized disease which has a high survival after definitive treatment with chemoradiation. For patients who develop metastatic disease or present with this de novo, survival is poor. AREAS COVERED: This review provides a summary of current literature on anal cancer. With a focus on women, this includes current epidemiological tre...

Conclusions: Menopausal symptoms were prevalent in this population. Our data indicate that women are experiencing climacteric symptoms, but are overall unmotivated to address symptoms using HT. Factors such as symptom severity, fear of side effects, income level, or education level were not associated with acceptability of HT for premature menopause.

ConclusionsHPV vaccination and screening interventions may be cost effective in LMICs and potentially reduce the lifetime risk, economic burden, and associated mortality. However, it is important to consider the factors that influence the cost effectiveness of cervical cancer prevention interventions for better outcomes to be realised.
