Inflammation in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: A bystander or a participant?

We read a paper by Ferreira et al. on the correlation between high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) with great interest [1]. Managing HFpEF remains challenging, as no single medication has demonstrated significant improvements in patient outcomes. Ferreira et al.'s study revealed that elevated hs-CRP levels in HFpEF patients are linked to adverse outcomes, including a higher risk of heart failure events and mortality, suggesting inflammation's critical role in HFpEF.
