40. Childhood Abuse and Ventral Bed Nucleus of the Stria Terminalis Stress Reactivity: A Transdiagnostic 7-Tesla Study

Childhood adversity dysregulates stress reactivity and predicts psychopathology, however underlying neural mechanisms are unclear. The paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVN) is uniquely proximal in its control over autonomic and neuroendocrine stress responses. The bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST) innervates the PVN and is also a heterogenous, proximal stress-control structure; dorsal (d) BNST is predominantly preautonomic, while ventral (v) BNST is predominantly viscerosensory.
