While individualized treatment is one of the pillars of the evolving practice towards a more physiological perfusion approach, further than “the elections of the artists”, decision-making algorithms considering different strategies to reduce blood product requirements (BPR) during Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB), should be implemented by Cardiac Surgery teams, considering the adequacy to circumstances and the cost-benefit balance.
