Novel approaches for hematopoietic stem cell mobilisation and collection need to be assessed for qualification and validation to accomplish the proper requirements of their intended purpose

The second stem cell (SC) mobilization issue has included four manuscripts related to different aspects which are thought to be critical in the hematopoietic SC collection procedure. The first paper by Worel et al. is focused on the optimal management of poor mobilisers, while the second one by Olivieri et al. has discussed the role played by prognostic scores to predict the amount of HSC mobilized in the peripheral blood. It is well known that the success of the autologous SCT(ASCT) procedure is strictly related to an adequate HSC collection.
