Globin gene disorders are a group of inherited diseases that result in altered production, structure or function of hemoglobin. The prevalence of these chronic ailments is significantly related to genetic and ethnic backgrounds, with a high fraction of patients living in low- to medium-income countries [1]; however, and as a result of migrations over centuries, a smaller fraction of patients reside in high-income countries.
