Impact of a quality improvement initiative on medical management of Veterans with peripheral artery disease
Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a leading cause of atherosclerotic cardiovascular morbidity and is associated with increased rates of lower extremity amputation (LEA).1 PAD is a strong predictor of both cardiovascular and overall mortality, even more so than prior MI.2,3 In fact, PAD in the absence of known CAD predicted cardiovascular events more strongly than did CAD.4
