Implementation of Pain Management Algorithm in Hospitalized Solid Tumor Patients

Inadequately treated pain impacts hospitalized solid tumor patients in a large teaching hospital. The unit has not met the department ’s pain management goals, and patient satisfaction surveys show an opportunity for improvement. The aim of this project was to implement the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s (NCCN) pain management algorithm to promote evidence-based pain management and improve patient-stated pain scores. This project targeted patients on one solid tumor service who were not being treated by palliative care, were not in the intensive care unit, and did not receive continuous analgesic infusions.
