Early Posttransplant Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid (BALF) Hyaluronan is an Independent Risk Marker for Chronic Lung Allograft Dysfunction (CLAD)

Purpose: CLAD is a significant challenge in lung transplantation with limited early diagnostic tools. We previously demonstrated hyaluronan (HA), an extracellular matrix molecule associated with pulmonary inflammation and fibrosis, accumulates in the BALF of lung recipients with CLAD. We aimed to determine if early posttransplant elevations in BALF HA inform future CLAD risk and identify a replicable BALF HA threshold for risk prediction.
