Longitudinal Dynamics of the NK Cell Repertoire After Lung Transplantation and Their Potential Role for Control in CMV Reactivation

Purpose: Lung transplantation (LTx) is the ultimate option for patients suffering from end stage lung diseases. In the early postoperative period, primary graft dysfunction (PGD) occurs as the main complication and at later time points, patients may develop chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) eventually leading to graft loss. In addition, CMV infections represent a clinically relevant complication, occurring primarily in high-risk groups, i.e. CMV-negative recipients of CMV-positive donor lungs (D+R-), associated with reduced survival rates.
